:/
no. shopify, as the the largest donator to the rubygems.org has manipulated the rubygems.org environament to kick out developers. including some of the important ones like the blundler developer. This is a very bad thing.
The "donation money" is more of a bribe to make the rubygems.org do whatever they want.
Its ok if you dont read the article because i know that its not relevant to you. but be careful with your comments haha. The take away of this post, is that a large company (shopify) has so much control over the gems ecosystem (because they control the most popular gem repo. since you do JS stuff, your familiar with npm right. Well you know how there are many repos that can you pull your npm packages from. well imaging if the largest donor to npm (microsoft) decided that they wanted to have more control over npm and kicked out some developers that they didnt like.
sure you can use a differnt repo's like lodash or whatever, but point is. you as a developer would need to change the source of your packages because microsoft is manipulating the repo in ways that they see fit.
That is whats happening to rubnygems rn. gems can come from many many repos. but the largest repo is rubygems.org... and that platform is the one thats now under influence from shopify, because shopify is the largest donor.
Everyone would be very very mad at microsoft if they started maniupululating the biggest npm repo. but because ruby is small now, no one seems to care that its happening to us! thats why i posted it here because i want more people to know whats corporate crap is going on. Support your small independent repos!
Wow, that's really cool. And it will bring the language to life
