Why is HN becoming a DEAD link graveyard?

Lately, whenever I go to [hacker news](https://news.ycombinator.com), I come across huge lists of these ![many dead links](https://i.imgur.com/Jy5qyYc.jpeg) Has this always been the case or are they also looking for a way to self-destruct? Someone help me understand what's going on. Is there a new policy or is it just that people don't know how to post?

![comments](https://i.imgur.com/TX43NcN.jpeg) the comments after I asked on HN itself why it's turning into a graveyard of dead links. For me it was one of the platforms that I most enjoyed reading and posting my news on. But now it's getting harder and harder

yea. its just a read-only for me now. I still pop it open if i get a notification that goes off when specific things come up but thats about it. I dont bother adding anything.

In fact, I used to contribute a lot to it, but after coming across this cemetery.... I lost all desire to go there

I dont know about you but i dont often contribute to massive sites like hn. I got my feed come to my machine so i dont even navigate to the website. Its a Read only mode for me and im ok with that.
