im sure a lawsuit will have a favorable outcome since now they can use wordpress's $ to fight apple in court rather then them just being a small start up that would have to submit.
the problem is that Apple is very keen on quality and security and this means that they don't allow certain services to have access to your data. And in this case I agree with them
I might come across as an apple hater but im really not. Im just a hater of stuff that they do first that eventually becomes a mainstream doctrine. I mostly say this as it refers to propitiatory... everything. But anyways, that aside, when a company puts alot of effort to build something like improved encryption for a messaging platform. I think that they deserve to reap the benefits. I dont think that brands need to open source stuff that they make and loose alot of their profitability from it. And im a big open source guy, but im not going to pretend that financial incentives arent one of the largest reasons for these large companies to keep doin thier work. Therefor i think that apple has no obligation to just give up and allow their competitors to also use their developed tech (like the EU is trying to make them). BUT. When a independent third party, goes through the exact same work, with even less funding then a mega corp like apple. and they independently create a standard that is compatible with apples encryption standards and such I think they likewise deserve to be able to benefit from their work.
Im not going to bother talking about apple monopoly and all that other crap that the news articles wana focus on. But i think apple just wants to scare people with the potential security concerns that this creates. Im sure it does create security and privacy concerns that apple needs to address. But apple is just fearmongering to cause people to call on the government to ban or restrict 3rd parties from being able to encroach on first party devs.
