Stack Overflow users try to protest partnership with OpenAI and have their accounts suspended for violating the site's rules: to prevent their data from being used in model training without permission, people tried to delete or edit their posts and replies within the platform, which does not allow this type of action in cases where the solution is marked as “accepted” in a post, or when it has at least one reply. I thought that was very funny😂😂, I could see it coming
I did just try and delete my account and edit my post/ answers to: this content has been removed. Then deactivated acc. I go this email this mornin: Hello, We're writing in reference to your Stack Overflow account: (link 2 profile here) You have recently removed or defaced content from your posts. Please note that once you post a question or answer to this site, those posts become part of the collective efforts of others who have also contributed to that content. Posts that are potentially useful to others should not be removed except under extraordinary circumstances. Even if the post is no longer useful to the original author, that information is still beneficial to others who may run into similar problems in the future - this is the underlying philosophy of Stack Exchange. Extensive deletions take a lot of effort to repair; please read "I’ve thought better of my question; can I delete it?" for possible alternatives. Because of the amount of disruption these incidents can cause, we have placed your account on hold for 30 days while we reach out to you to avoid any further misunderstandings. Once this matter has been resolved, your reputation score will be restored and your account will resume as normal. Regards, Stack Overflow Moderation Team
too formal for my taste 😣. The small forums now have more meaning than the big companies, I've felt more at ease on them than on Facebook.
I stopped using their service as much when they took down their job board. Then they kinda brought it back recently but its just indeed with a tech-only filter. Jobs aside there is soo much info on there that is relevant to many issues. Even if people stop posing on that site people will still need to visit because of the vast amount of info that has been posted in the last 2 decades. So even if chat-to.dev became the #1 site for devs stack-overflow would still be accessed for their old catalog of legacy information. Its too big to fall from this.
is still the biggest. Our mission is to mold the platform to the needs of our users and that's what will make us bigger than a lot. we're only 4 months old and we're already visited by everyone. we don't want to implement a lot of things, we just want to be what our users need.
Oh no, what im trying to say is even if this becomes most populated site and gets filled with useful guides and people getting questions like stackoverflow, it wouldnt matter still because of the vast ammount of already existing information on their site. For example if i come up with the best streaming service. I get all the new tv shows and stuff and become popular. that doesnt mean that its going to bankrupt netflix because they have a large library of exclusives going back multiple years that users will keep coming back too. Even if its inferior service. Stackoverflow can shrug this off. Aint gonna hurt them much.
that makes me think of the end of the company
I am also one of the few who is running away from everything that joins AI. because so far I haven't seen many advantages that they have brought
Thats because there are no advantages for the independent developer, just the mega corp that dont have to pay you decent wages anymore.
